Lion Laraine joined the Wingate Lions Club in November 1999. She has served as secretary for several years, treasurer, vice president, president, board member, and a member of numerous committees at the club level. On the district level, she has served as zone chair, and as chairperson of several committees. She served as district cabinet secretary/treasurer, 2nd Vice District Governor (District 31-E) 2012-2013 1st Vice District Governor (31-E) 2014-2015, 1st Vice District Governor (31-O) 2015 -2016 and District Governor (31-O) 2016-2017.
At the state level, Lion Laraine has served as Volunteer Committee Co-Chair, Sight and Hearing Conservation Committee Chair, State Convention Rules Committee Chairperson, State Convention Attendance and Credentials Committee Chairperson and Brighter Visions. She has also been an active participant in North Carolina Lions Foundation budget hearings.
She has served as a volunteer during Camp Dogwood Summer Camp sessions, the North Carolina Lions VIP Fishing Tournament, and the monthly meetings of Union County’s VIP support group.
A Life member of North Carolina Lions, Lion Laraine is a 2nd progressive Jack Stickley Fellow, William L. Woolard Partner-In-Service (Friend), a 1st progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, and a Sid L. Scruggs Beacon of Hope recipient. She has received a LCI Presidential Leadership Medal, the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation, International President’s Letter of Commendation, 100% President’s Award, and 100% Secretary’s Award. Lion Laraine was also the recipient of the Ben Q. Foreman (District 31-E Lion of the Year) in 2013. In 2024 Lion Laraine and her partner-in-service Lion Dale were inducted into the NC Lions Hall of Fame. Lion Laraine has attended numerous USA/Canada Forums & International Conventions.
Lion Laraine is a retired registered nurse. She has been active in her church, and participated in mission trips to Ukraine, Alabama, and coastal North Carolina. She is married to her partner-in-service Lion Dale Dupree, PCC. They have two children, six grandchildren, and 8 (9th on the way) great grandchildren.
